   Hello,

Went to look at a Farmall and walked by this and talked the guy out of it instead.  Its a 1940 WC with a HI-WAY SERVICE CORP grader attachment.  Some parts are similar to what I see on the net to a Speed Patrol, but a lot that's not. Long story short, went to pay the guy and he wouldn't take any money until I got it home.  Been sitting in the woods for about 20 years.  About 2 hours and a new snow plow hose, I road it 3 miles home. Any information on HI-WAY SERVICE CORP and or this grader would be greatly appreciated. My buddy collects Allis's.  He's going to be jealous... OldSchoolRecovery

Anyone want any other pictures to help ID and gather information on this grader, let me know and I will post.

This was owned by a local ready mix company and from a quick search on my smart phone on the net, I found that HI-WAY SERVICE CORP started in Butternut Wisconsin which is not far from my home.  Could make one wonder if they just up-fitted WC's at that time.  I also see that Allis bought HI-WAY, but not sure of time-line.Any comments and or help would be appreciated, OldSchoolRecovery |

Can't believe I found it so fast.  Looks like HI WAY applied for a patent for a "Road Shoulder Maintainer" in 1939 Open the diagrams.  Looks just like what I got going on. Cool, OldSchoolRecovery

US 2281360 A into your search engine and you will see the patent for the road shoulder maintainer. OldSchoolRecovery

Figure 3 shows internal hydraulic rams, and mine has some add on rams, so modified later in life.  Have to see what is left of the original set up.

Seller called today with a new manifold and muffler in the box.  So I went and bought them from him.  I see a air cleaner assembly on the bay I need to get...

Then tires.... Always tires... OldSchoolRecovery |

Put a new exhaust manifold on tonight. Also, a muffler with cap, correct seat and a air cleaner assembly I got off the bay a couple days ago.  Runs a lot nicer now.  More work to come.  Pictures are grainy.  Low light conditions, LOL..

Also determined that the tractor has a Sherman auxiliary transmission.  Not sure if it is a step up or step down.  Yet..

Not sure why the pictures are so big again??

We'll, I traded it to my buddy that collects Allis's for a truck that I traded for two Oliver crawlers, a  1953 OC3 and a 1958 OC4.  I have a Oliver Super 55, and the OC4 looks like its twin. Anyway, my buddy is currently working on his Allis M crawler that was handed down from his dad.  He has quite a few Allis machines, not sure where the H-3 fits in that line up.  But it is definitely at a good home. He was here on Friday and I traded a one-bottom Allis plow for a Dearborn disc for my 8N. Never know whats going to happen. OldSchoolRecovery |
