I have purchased a 1939 Model B which had been converted to a 12 volt alternator and a solenoid controlled starter.  Having found a couple of obvious wiring mistakes causing a lot of trouble starting the tractor, I started trying to straighten it out.  Had the starter checked at a good shop, cleaned all connections, made new battery cables (old ones were really a mess), and want to put on an ammeter and key switch rather than the little twist starter button that is on it now.  What I really need now is good directions or even a diagram to help me with the correct wiring using a single wire alternator and a solenoid.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You don't want to run the ammeter through a key switch. Most key switches are not rated for that kind of current.

Here is a link to Duey Shutter's website.

He has various sketches for 6 to 12 volt conversions.
