Traveling to Canada ???

Do not pull up behind the vehicle at the booth until the light changes after the previous person has exited the booth stop. They will ask you "can you read" as they did me once when I inched too close while getting my license, PP out of my pocket while pulling up.

No jokes, no tobacco, no booze (unless bought at Duty Free just prior to border crossing), and NO GUNS. Thousand Islands Bridge crossing north of Watertown, NY can get busy and I have sat in line for over an hour before when busy. Give yourself time as weekends can get swamped as locals return from US trips plus many Americans are going across for visits. Many boats and campers this time of year. You should still be able to use the truck lane if pulling a trailer. Obey the speed limits just prior to the border, especially as you come back across as Troopers grab plenty where it stays 45-55 mph for a few miles on our side and that ticket is expensive (ask me how I know). I have only went across in Buffalo once and they are very thorough there as well.

As mentioned, if you have a radar detector, put it in the console and never plug it in while there as OPP have equipment to pick up the signal if you use it, and they do confiscate it. Knew an OPP officer while I lived there in the later 90's and he advised locals would plug in a cheap detector after removing their good one while pulled over. OPP had equipment to pick up different frequencies and would simply tell the driver they wanted the other unit also, and you do not get them back.

Taxes (partially) are given back at border so save your receipts for any meals/shopping and pull into the DF for your refund as you come back across.

Don't forget to fill up before crossing as fuel can be very expensive in Ontario. Even compared to NY gas prices as I just returned from NY and paid up to 2.65/gallon while there. Second the comments on cleaning out the truck as they are very keen, even when the border is busy. I was directed to the secondary check area last year, waited over an hour to be interviewed and then watched through the window as they removed everything from the rental car and emptied my luggage, even checked under the hood.

Never trailered equipment back but have been told if documentation is in order, border is no problem.

Enjoy the trip and watch the speedo, especially on the 401 highway if you use it.

I'd definitely think through everything you're taking up, everything you're bringing back and then call both US and Canadian sides to ensure you're good.

My experience is definitely US is harder than the Canadians.
