My dad and uncle bought this tractor at an estate auction in 68, when I was about 2 years old, the man's name was Finlyn Dyer.As long as I can remember it has been called "Finlyn". I spent many hours on it, driving between rows of haybales while dad and uncle loaded the trailer. Clean out the holding pen every morning I wasn't in school. Get off the bus at Uncle Kenny's farm and I'd have to round up the cows with it and have them in the holding pen so when they got there everything was ready. If you go though a deep ditch with the blade on....you get to walk back to the barn...and get a " Where's Finlyn"?, when they got there. I wasn't big enought to put the drawbar back under it, and they would give me trouble and just "toss it up in the bell". Made me so mad. First tractor I ever drove on the road, man I thought I was pretty cool. It was traded in on a Simplicity lawnmower in the late 80's and went to a local guy. He was killed at a train crossing about 2005. Anyway, we bought it back in 2009 and I have been tinkering with it since then. Complete overhaul, motor, clutch, trans, brakes, rearend, finals. Not a bolt unturned. I did do a couple of updates, as seen in the pics, battery cut off and altenator. Also it does have a 226 motor, it kinda fell into my lap and wasn't feasable to rebuid the 201 for what I gave for the whole parts tractor with a fresh rebuild. So it's a 53 WD with a 45 motor. I too own a 53' wd. My dad bought it in 59'(second owner), and sold it to his father in 69'. I purchased it at my grandfather's auction in 99'. It's since been restored and rests happily in my plumbing shop.

Hey Leon,,,That is a Great lookin tractor,,,!! Beautiful pics with thet background,,,!! I don't think I ever seen an alternator with that type of bolt bracket, tho,,,??? Good Job,,!!

My dad bought a '53 WD that had been a Demastrater. I sold it at auction in '65. I have no idea where it is today. It would be kind of nice to know where it is.

Nice job. Dad also purchased a new WD April 1953 from L A Motors , Stayner. This tractor had the curved gear shift. Serial number was 128, 797 . Last time I saw our WD was at Bellamy Farm Equipment in 1974. Would love to have it back. The foot rest under the brakes was cut narrower since there was a Horn loader on the tractor until 1962.

It is Persian Orange #1 but it's from a local Tractor supply so it may not be an exact match. My alt is one I found at Amazon. The bottom bracket is actually made from 2 original factory generator brackets and the top bracket is still the original. Fits in there pretty nice. Thanks for all the comments. Leon B Mo

I wasn't complaining on the color.#2 is a more attractive color to me and before I was on this forum I wouldn't gave a second thought to painting older tractors the "wrong" color but now....I don't know.Dads 49 WD looks pretty good the right color(painted in early 70's).

Great looking job you did on the "family" tractor! They sure are special. And yours looks very nice in the new paint! Have fun with it!
I also remember taking the narrow front end WD on the road for the first time! I thought I had really made it, for Dad to trust me hauling empty hay wagons to the other farm!

how about doing a older tractor with the newer scheme? i just got a 42 C with a 72" woods mower, all orange except the front rims which had been temporary spares from cars, thought id do the cream on rims and put a hood stripe on. i like it, might do the grille too in cream, its actually rustoleum almond. i think it looks pretty close to the original off-white like youd find on the one-seventy or other newer tractors of that vintage. http://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/q489/dbird1970/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170609_172650_zpssarpo90z.jpg

Good job!!! on your tractor, the restoration, & the story. I have two 1950 WD's that have been in the family longer than I have. Grew up on them. 1 was grandpa's, then dad's. The other was dad's. Mom has some pics of me at around age 2 on 1 of the WD's & playing in a wagon full of ear corn.
