Topic: Engine running temp under load? 7040Posted: 21 May 2017 at 7:28pm |

Just wondering what temp these tractor typically run at under full load? I know the factory gauge reads high so I have an additional mechanical gauge. Whats is the max allowable temperature?
I also had an accident while discing, The hitch pin came out and the disc came off and ripped all the hydraulic hoses.. I fixed the disc hoses but one of the remote hoses on the tractor ripped off where the rubber goes to steel on the way into the remote valve. Is Their a clamp available to attach the rubber back onto the steel or is it too much pressure? I didn't want to remove the steel line from the valve cause it is hard to get at it. Now the remote valve is leaking too, I will have to fix it after spring, Will the whole remote valve assembly come off the tractor? Should I get it rebuilt or get a salvage unit? Thanks, Nick

A stock 7040 running 135 PTO HP might run 200 degrees on a day that the ambient outside temp is 100 degrees. That means on an 80 degree day that temp should run 180 degrees. This assumes a perfect condition cooling system. |

okay, I was running about 200-205 on a 60 degree day,, Mind you I was pulling a 25 foot disc in 5th gear. The only reason for such a high gear was That I was working up sod ground and needed some speed to break it up better. If I dropped down a gear it cooled off a bit.
I will have to flush rad and blow it out soon too.

My 7050 will run 210 all day on a 80 degree day. With a good pressure cap that won't one. MACK

Do you have pics of the damage? Do you think it tweaked the fittings on the valve, or tweaked the whole valve and bent the bolts holding the stack together?
I would look at the couplers and see why they didnt break away like they should have. |

I really haven't looked closely yet.. I'm hoping it Just tweaked the fittings that go into the valve, But I think it's also leaking from the valve assembly/stack.
The one hose that got completely ripped off where it joins from rubber hose to steel is the fitting that is in close to the front of the tractor on the valve stack... So I need to remove the others to get at it.
