I'm helping my wife's parents look for a replacement lawn mower. We found a posting for an AGCO Allis 1616 today. Has a 16 horse Briggs V twin, and a heavy duty 44 inch deck with the electric switch to engage. It sits on four good tires with fresh oil and a newer battery. Also has a hydro transmission. Judging from the pictures it looks like it's in really good shape. The guy has a sop in his garage and works on mowers. He's asking 800 or best offer. Is it a good deal? I don't know anything about these machines, thought there might be somebody here who would. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Brad |

My dad had a green AC 616, 1985 model i think before the Duetz name appeared. 16 horse Twin Briggs, hydro, shifter in between your legs. Not sure if that's similar to what your looking at, but it was a great mower until around 4 years ago when the engine popped. He ran it low in oil and was on a hill side when the rod came out the side. He traded it in on a AC130 which he still uses today. The AC130 was a Simplicity stunt to bring the AC name back for 2 years I believe. The 616 was a much better built machine.
If it appears to have been kept in good condition and well maintained then it would be worth it compared with what is on th market today at the box stores. |
