I have AC 72 unit planter. I'm wanting to plant sunflowers. Does a corn plate work on sunflowers? Thanks

No, you will need different plates but the seed dealer should be able to get them for you.

I don't if the plates you have will work, never did sunflowers but I had an allis planter with the adapters to use jd plastic plates. I was able to plant quite a few different garden crops by just trying different plates until I found some that were acceptable. Not exact or picket fence rows but good enough.

Can you find a neighbor to custom plant with a Deere finger pick up? Had pretty decent success with flowers planted by a Deere.

Usually have a filler plate and then the seed plate, seeds are thinner than corn, I suppose if you are not planting alot and not too fussy about population you maybe able to make it work but would have a job figuring out planting rate. Plates are pretty cheap compared to seed costs and a poor stand.

I plant sunflowers mixed with corn seed for food plots with my 495 John Deere planter, have had no problems since I've started doing this. Going to try straight sunflowers this year. As long as the seeds fit in the slot of the plate you should be fine. I pick a plate that fits the seed well and then throw a handful of seed in the hopper and turn the plate by hand to make sure the seeds feed into the slots and not get ground up by the plate. I plant soybeans with corn plates in the same fashion and have had no problems.

planted about 1/2 acre of sunflowers and 8 long rows of sweet corn for my honey bees.....
