My D17 series IV late model starts fine and runs for 10 minutes then dies, and won't restart until it cools all the way down. It has good spark and gets gas. It is a weird deal. If I am working it will start to sputter and lose power before shutting down.
When I let it sit there and idle it will just plain shut off in 10 -15 minutes. It won't even pop until I let it set for a half hour and then it starts great, and then does the same thing every tine Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like a bad coil or condenser. Once it dies check fire at coil, if you still have fire then check fuel flow for at least a minute out of carb bowl, but I would guess ignition. Leon

I would start with the coil and condensor first as well.

Thanks. Tonight it would not start at all, so I pulled a plug and it had spark but it seemed like it would skip and was a little weak. I thought about a carb kit but after reading what you guys wrote I will start with a new coil, condenser , points and plugs.

Too Tall, Great to hear. As I was reading this thread I was thinking "back in the day" that is exactly what I would do. Might be overkill but all new parts would get the engine running well for quite a long time. Good Luck! Bill Long
