 Topic: Trying to Mate an Allis C and a Woods L59 Mower

I have a 1941 Allis C that I bought a few weeks ago. I rebuilt the carb and have her running well. I also separately bought a Woods L59 mower deck that I intend to mount as a belly mower. I cannot find the mounting brackets and pulleys anywhere to mate the two (though I have devised some elaborate schemes for rigging it). I anticipate that the pulleys and getting the belt to make a half-turn in both directions reliably will be my greatest challenges... that is, unless someone on here has a kit for sale or has already mastered the art of rigging this from scratch. Alternatively, I have heard legend of draw-bar-mounted rear mowers, but I have not seen any locally that can be mounted without a 3-point. In any case, the lawn is getting out of control - please help before I break down and buy a more conventional riding mower.

another option on a "drawbar" type mower is to take a 3 point mower and fix two arms / pins on your drawbar to attach to a 3 point mower and just hold it 3-4 inches off the ground.. It does not go up and down... more of a drag mower.... Fix one or two pivoting tail wheels so you can turn corners.. You don't need a top link on the 3 point. I have done this with mowers and heavy disc that a B or C can not lift.

I should also mention that this is my first tractor, so I am an absolute novice when it comes to implements. I have worked on motorcycles, so tractor engines are proving to be a welcome down-shift in terms of complexity, but when it comes to implements, PTOs, and most of the other things that make a tractor a tractor, please speak slowly, for I am without wisdom.

Or call woods, and buy the mounts, may cost a bit, but will likely be right, and faster.

Orange Blood - Sorry, I should have also mentioned that I called the local Woods dealer, who called Woods corporate, only to have them laugh and say that they don't make kits for Cs anymore.
Dick - Thanks! For one thing, those show me how low the brackets go and gives me an idea on how to angle the pulleys. Much appreciated!

On woods website they have a pic demonstrating the l59 under a allis c and on the list of compatable tractors the allis c and many other old tractors are listed I call crap on your dealer calling corporate older tractors like the c are their bread and butter for that mower I'd try another dealer

there are 2 "C" s coming up on auction this next week with woods belly mowers on them, www.delpeterson.com , there are some pretty good pics on how they are mounted and run.

I'm in Maryland very near Gettysburg Pa. I have the brackets for a D10/12 which adjusts to fit the different axle widths. $125 for everything I have. It is a little bit different than what a C should have but it's a better start than nothing. If you let me know your EMail address I could send you a picture of what I have.

Woods doesn't "make a kit" for mounting on any tractor. You can however buy replacement parts from Woods. Here is a site that lists the part you want, number 6 for a C Allis. Idler & mounting frame to fit Allis "C"

Oh yea, if your lawn is out of control now, better buy some sheep  cause a Woods finish mower is just that, don't work for a bush hog on tall grass.

Paul - Yes, I would love a picture, as the piece spanning between the wheels is the hardest piece of the puzzle. I bought the deck from Gary (nice deck, great price, nice guy!), and he gave me a bracket that has a couple pulleys on it, so I am part of the way there in several respects.
Gary - I am thinking the most expedient course of action (and the one that makes my wife happy, as her suggestion is to sell the Allis and buy something from Lowes) would be to find a brush-hog for the Allis, since as many have pointed out, that is what I really need - do you have one that would mount on the drawbar or know of one nearby? AND/or do you have a working riding mower for sale? As you know, I have a 5050 in my future that will become my brush-hogger, but in the meantime, this scenario gets my jobs done and buys me time to turn the C into a glorified lawnmower without too much criticism regarding my stubborn nostalgia :) Thanks also for pointing me toward this resource!
