for the front crankshaft seal. I called Napa and they said they couldn't get the speedi-sleeves or the rubber lip seal anymore. Any help appreciated!

I will call my local NAPA tomorrow and see what they say. It has been most likely seven years since I bought one from NAPA but would be surprised if they didn't carry them in stock. They have started not having as much as they did in stock but when I call they deliver the items to me the next morning.

On another note, before I knew of speedy sleeves I would take a Dremal cutting disk and clean the spiral then fill it with JBWeld steel. I then filed it down leaving it slightly high and using a strip of emery cloth sand it all smooth. It worked as good as the speedy sleeve. It does add a day to the rebuild waiting for the JBWeld to cure before sanding smooth.
When I am working on a project I hate having to stop. It is just to hard for me to get back on that project. I like the speedy sleeves or any needed parts to be on hand before I start such of a project.   
I have ten year old projects that I needed to order parts and after the parts came in they are still in the area of the project I think.Wink

Sandy Lake will have the seals in stock.

I was afraid to chime in before, but I used the JB Weld method on two my tractors.  Haven't had a leak yet.

Thanks, both of you guys! Dick, you're my "right hand man" when it comes to anything B/C/CA related! You always seem to have the right answer at the right time!

I know what you mean about not wanting to continue a project after waiting for the parts to come in! That happened to me a few times already, with different projects. I might try the JB weld method. It seems like it would be cheaper to do that than the speedi-sleeve. I don't mind the delay in waiting for the JB weld to dry. Usually what I do, to keep me interested in my project at hand, is to have 2-3 projects going on at once. Right now, I'm building my B engine, a homemade "putt-putt bike", and making a bolt-on 3pt hitch for my SC disk so I can use it with my 8N. By having several projects, I can work on one for a few days, then skip to another, and so forth. This way I have some variety, and don't get burned out by doing the same project every day for several weeks. Wink

I get my speedy sleeves at O'Reillys. If I remember correctly they were the National brand.
It's the color tractor my grandpa had!

That won't work.  Buy the stuff in the tubes.  It flows better and will fill the gaps.

creston, on the last post about this I posted the CR part # and the dimention chart matching it.  whats the issue?  if napa cant cross that CR # you need a new NAPA

I don't know why it wouldn't work. This is 2 tubes that have to be mixed to use and is made for many uses including steel.

I'm not sure. I gave them the number, and they said they can no longer get them. I know the guy behind the counter well, his dad and he farm about 1/2 mile away from us, so he's not the average citybot kid behind the counter.

the sleeve is 99149 CR, SKF and NATIONAL all the same number.  NAPA # is 99149 also.    all over the net.  O'reilly lists it for 65 mustang with same part # and 3 yr warranty

Nope, the sleeve is very thin and rubber seals have room to stretch. BTDT although some may sell a different seal for them.

You can get most any size of speedy sleeve from McMaster-Carr.  I had a idler chew into a stub axle, on the U/C of my ASV RC-30 loader, left a groove about 1/4"-5/16" deep.  Used 2 coats of straight JB weld, The stuff any hardware store sells.  First coat, I put in the groove, sanded it down, with a strip of emory cloth, then put a second coat on, with the sleeve installation.  3-4 years ago, still running good, today...

Just for the record I have one new stick and a half stick in my tool box. The package at the link has only one stick. I slice off the amount I want to use and mix it between my thumb and finger until the center of the stick is mixed well with the outside. It is a thick putty. I use it on a crack on one of my C radiators. I force it in and it sets up quickly. It falls off after a while and I reapply. I would not use it on the crankshaft. The JBWeld in the tubes will run until it sets up, the putty will not run as it is thick. I have also used the stick on small dints rather than mix up bondo. The stick has a round foil seal that I put back on after slicing off what I need to keep it from hardening in the plastic tube for storage.

No problems.  The seal lip does not ride on the JB Weld in the spiral. To wear into the JB Weld it would have to wear a groove into the steel. Just wrap a thread around the crankshaft over the grooves where the lip would ride to see for your self.
I used a speedy sleeve on the C I mow with and it leaks. I must have damaged the seal when I installed it.  As I buy another jug of oil I say I should put the new seal on this thing one of these days.  At least the fronts not going to rust.Wink

Ok, I tried the JB weld method, and now have the spiral filled in and sanded smooth.
Now I need the lip seal part number. I've called 2 Napa stores and neither say they can't get an Allis-Chalmers B front crankshaft lip seal. If anyone has the part number, I would greatly appreciate it!

I bought a reliance shim pack for my WD45. Instead of a "laminate" shim pack, it came as single .010 shims. I would order from Sandy lake so you get the actual laminate shim pack so you can peel off layers to get the correct tolerance.

I ended up just making some shims at work from .005, .004, and .003 shim stock.
