Its an over-running clutch, allows the blades to spin down, without the drive shaft turning. Take it apart, and see if the 2 pins are stuck, or the springs are rusty and/or broken. If you need parts, Sandy Lake can get them to you in a day or 3...

If "pins" are sheared, cut down some bolts that fit while still allowing it to ratchet when pto shaft turned backwards by hand. Springs need to be good as mentioned so the pins are kept engaged. Just don't go with too hard a bolt stock if you make your own pins and you may need to keep the large adjustment glad snug enough to keep everything mated up right. Tough little cutter, if gear box kept up with grease/oil and grease fittings at base are not forgotten.

Ok, so that tells me there should be a pin or bolt through it. The holes in front and rear plates are obvious but the center plate is hard to tell. What appears to be sheared off doesn't look like it really line up with the other holes and looks like it may be impossible to drive it out, looks like maybe only 1 pin/bolt in it though I'm not sure. Any way to get a picture or a manual that shows/tells me more about it and making adjustments etc ? Otherwise may not be the easiest for me to figure out what to do. Thanks.

If the springs engage the pins, do the pins go all the way through all the plates ?, sounds a bit confusing to me.

I will see if I can get a picture of my over running clutch tonight when I get home. Can you post any pics. My over running clutch doesn't have plates. There is a spring loaded slip clutch right before the over running clutch

First spray the spring area with WD 40, several times, peck on the cast area around the area to see if the springs are rusted and stuck in the holes

I bought new pins and springs for the overrun clutch from Sandy Lake. You can go online to agcopartsbooks.com and view the parts breakdown as a guest viewer.
I did find that on my 160 the slip clutch isn't what is shown in the parts breakdown. Mine actually has a friction clutch where the parts breakdown shows a spring loaded setup. |

Yeah, not sure mine has springs if it does I don't know where they are located, though it has hole in frontand rear plates but doesn look like it has holes in middle plate for a pin or bolt. That's why I'm trying to find a picture or a manual or something that will show me what it all looks like. Thanks

If it is a spring loaded slip clutch, there wouldn't be any holes in the middle plate. The 2 outside plates would be bolted with spring pressure trying to pull them together. The middle plate would be squeezed between them making friction the only connection to the gearbox from the PTO shaft.
The front plate would be connected to the PTO shaft and the middle plate connected to the gearbox input. |

Sirbon,
Have responded to PM's and e-mails, including e-mail response sent today. Super busy and do not live on-line. If you would have included your address in any of the messages, you would have a nice manual in your hands by now . . . . . |

If it has springs where are they coated, on the pin/bolt, somewhere in the clutch discs, I have no picture to go by. The diagram on account parts book is not large enough or clear enough to really tell
