I have a C that has the serial number of 82924, which according to the serial number guide on this website would mean that it is a 1950 model.  However, I am confused because I thought that the later models of this tractor were made with a distributor.

Were they also made with a magneto, or is the chart that I'm looking at wrong?

I believe it should have been mag. B-CA on the last units were distributor but any of the three could be changed to distributor. Leon

My 51 CA came with a mag and was changed over by the dealer to distributor. All C's came with a mag as far as I know.

Thank you - I have no idea why I thought it should have had a distributor, but for some reason I thought that I heard somewhere that the later C's did.

Later B's came originally with a distributor but they were in production much later than the C since the C had been replaced by the CA.

That would have been an add on at one time. My RC had a distributor when I got it too. There was one that could bolt on right in place of a magneto. Factory ones would have no way to put a magneto on. An old engine could be converted too if governors were changed or even a new engine put in a tractor.

The C came through equipped with a mag for the life of the unit.  Delco made a great conversion kit which we used to upgrade from a mag to distributor ignition.  We had a lot of problems in this area with stone barns made from old colonial forts and stone garages. They were very damp and ate up the ignition of the mags.
For the record the distributor ignition started on the B with Serial Number 123996
Good Luck!
