Hey guys I am converting to 12v and want to order a volt meter. What size gauge do I need to order to fit in the stock B location?

The ammeter current range really depends on the charger. The original generator probably hardly did 20 amps peak, while the smallest alternator will do more like 50 and peg a 30 amp meter hard. The ammeter should have a little greater full scale than the peak current rating of the charging machine. Wire through the ammeter from the main loads, to the battery, and from the charging machine needs at least a similar current rating. 10 gauge copper is decent for 30 amps, but limits the charging current on a 50 amp alternator, and can run hot at 30 amps. 6 or 8 gauge should be used for a 50 amp alternator charging circuit. All the way from the alternator to the battery connect, probably at the starter switch.

A voltmeter is not very useful in my opinion, been there, had a car with a GOOD voltmeter and ammeter and the ammeter told me more than the voltmeter. Most automotive volt meters don't have the resolution or the precision it takes to be informative.
