Well I have decided with my hood panels having a few cracks on my 4w-220 and the paint it had been repainted with not looking the best I am going to repaint most of the corporate orange on this tractor. I was curious what you guys have used for brand of paint for Corporate orange. I have seen some 8000 series that are painted and they look to redish orange. I have a nice 8010 with original paint and I thought about taking that in and have them match that paint. Just curious what you guys have used. Thanks

when we bought our second 8550 it was in need of some major TLC. after overhauling the motor and installing a cab kit we decided to go ahead and paint it. we used corporate orange from agco. the paint is quality and you know you are getting the oem color and finish. our hood panels had been laying on the ground and had even been run over. so just slapping them back on was going to look terrible. i have some before pics around here somewhere
the tractor on the left is the one we painted, the one on the right was repainted by a dealer in MN before we bought it. the paint still looks great and is about 8 years old now. it is a lot of work, and i hate to see people take shortcuts to save a little $$ when in the long run, it will cost you. btw these are farming tractors not shed queens, the get out in the sun and weather but they always go to the shed when the season is done. we also did the wheels and hubs but not any of the black. the engine looks dirty cause we had a small oil leak and we did pull the pump and change the oring. here is the old man himself posing with the tractors. that is a "Got Beer" shirt not "john Deere" lol ![]() Edited by CAL(KS) - 13 Jan 2016 at 5:13am |

I was thinking of getting some corporate orange from agco and see what my friend that is doing the painting/body work thinks of it. He is worried that the paint will not look the best and be as good as quality that he gets from the auto store.

a friend of mine that went to autobody school helped us paint this. he had no issues or complaints about this paint, but different people have different opinions.

Prep is where all he time is spent and time is money spend the money on good paint my opinion a good ureathane paint or at the very least use a hardener. I have a 4w that was painted 12 to 15 years ago has NOT spent one night or day INSIDE since and still looks pretty good I will get the brand of paint and post it. The cab is not very fun to paint also repairing side panels DO NOT use fiberglass to repair the panels they are some sort of composit plastic maybe someone here noes the proper term but fiberglass dosnt adhere long term they make special product just for that type of plastic

How do you like those 8550's? I have a friend that has one. He says it's good, but you can't get parts for it.

i cant say anything about the panels on 4w. 8550 and 7580 are metal like 7000 series tractors.
most parts are common with 7000 series tractors except for the transmission and drop box. we did have to have a gear made for one dropbox that was NLA but otherwise we are still rolling. We have always found what we needed. They are great tractors if used for what they were designed, i think people get into problems when they crank up the ponies and pull the snot out of them. a bout like any tractor. on ours the gear was fine, but the splines that drove it were worn and caused it to not move. i wouldnt recommend a loader or running as a silage packer with the T handle shifting mechanism
![]() this should be a pic of the gear ![]() |

Just get it from Agco, I have a 210 painted with it. And it is as good as the paint on my 2011 pickup. The guy that painted the sheetmetal builds street rods. He did good work. Don't know how it could be any better.

Corporate orange paint from AGCO is very good paint. The guy that does my painting loves it because it is very easy to work with. Just get it from there. It is always the same color from can to can.

TIME and exposure to sun is the best test weather the paint is good not how it looks the day after or how easy it sprays I painted years ago I started with tractor supply paint then tractor supply with hardener then dupont dulux then dupont centeri then dupont emron then caseih paint and so on. agco paint with hardener is probabley ok but urathane paint will stand the test of time like I said I have 4w220 that has never seen cover since it was painted 12plus years ago with urathane and still is very good never been waxed. I will get the brand it was a urathane paint two coats very easy to use.

John, The PPG urethane paint is more expensive but is much more durable and has a better shine, I think the AGCO paint is still an Alkyd Enamel which is just an implement paint, I haven't tried using a hardener with it, if it is available I would think it would make it shine better and not fade as quick.

Yuck! Alkyd paint? That's the junk that fades out after a couple years in the sun, right? I figured AGCO had a better paint than that. |

Red will fade pink. Granddad's 8N he painted 12 years ago is a prime example. Painted it with alkyd, left it sit outside, now it's white and pink instead of grey and red.

Agco paint is around 25 a QUART. We have a CA that was painted with TSC paint back in the day, it is now pink. Thank god it is the tractor that mom does all the shelter belt mowing with. My auto body guy is going to get ppg spray out with the two numbers and we will compare it to agco paint. Shameless you still paint with one of those brooms they made in Deschler Nebraska right???

Alkalid Enamel is the basic cheap tractor paint also used around the house for the swing set , hand rails, etc... buy at any hardware store.
An automotive enamel is called acrylic enamel and uses a hardener and is a much higher quality paint.
Urethane ( sometimes called acrylic urethane) is an even better quality automotive paint and more expensive than enamels.
There are also two part epoxy paints and cost is up at urethane or higher. Edited by steve(ill) - 14 Jan 2016 at 8:22pm |

I would say that the AGCO paint is a step up from hardware store paint but not as good as a 2 part urethane.
