Well boys and girls, I finally made it! 4:30 today was retirement for me!

Been lots of planning and saving for many years to get to today, I’ve never left a job without having one to start in the morning. It sure felt strange.  It was a long wet hour and a half home drive tonight, but sure felt good doing it for the last time. I’m ready to slow down a gear or two and enjoy life with my bride. Looking forward to a few extra shows too, now that I don’t have to work around vacation days and time off requests!

Merry Christmas everyone!Smile

Isn't there anyone on this forum who works anymore??

Joe, ENJOY it!!

You won't know you are until about a week from now.  You'll just be thinking you're on vacation.  Retirement is a terrible job, but somebody's gotta do it....

Congratulations! I hope you really enjoy your retirement and have many years of it!
Best thing that ever happened to me same time of year 2013. I sure have not missed it a bit. I think we should have done this when we were much younger!:)

I bet it feels nice not to worry bout' gittin' ta' work and planning vacation time. Now you can do somethin' anytime and anywhere. Woo Hoo!  Good for you man!  Best of luck to ya, and stay healthy and enjoy!

Congratulations and Merry Christmas Joe. No one deserves it more than you, unless maybe it was me. LOL. I'm sure you will be like the rest of us after a couple weeks and wonder how you ever got anything done when you were still working. Now, you and the lovely wife can enjoy your second honeymoon. God Bless.

Congratulations, Joe. I highly recommend retirement - it has given me time to get involved in a new hobby, old tractors, and allowed me to met a bunch of new friends, some of them e-friends I've met right here on this forum. That includes you! I wish for you years of health and well-being. Merry Christmas.

Congratulations Joe!!! As others have said, it won't be long and you will be wondering where the time went. I retired 14 years ago at 57. Big thing is to stay away from the recliner!!   Enjoy your new career!!

Good for you !! I've been retired for 9 years and don't know where that time has gone. Armand has the best advice saying stay away from the recliner stay active with something even if its a long walk each day. I work about 10 hrs a week taking car of the local park and enjoy it. That leaves time for other things like tractors.   Best to you my friend !!   Mark

Good for you Joe !!

Now you're the newest memeber of the 'club'. Give it 3-4 days and all sorts of 'friends', 'neighbours', and 'relatives'( 3rd cousing, twice removed, mamas side) but be at your garage wanting YOU to do all sorts of things, 'fast and free'.

word of advice, do NOT sleep in ! Get up by 7 and do something, even if it's just walking around th eproperty making a list of things to do.Life is way too short .Just be safe moving heavy things and don't do everything the first weekend !!

enjoy

Well, I have a 100A. farm and have been retired(UPS) since December of 1999 and this is how a lot of my days go.

Today you plan what you are going to do tomorrow, and the next day before you put your plan into effect you just do this other little job you have been planning to do for the last few months. Before you know it it is late afternoon and time for a beer, so much for today's plan!
Somehow I find out that I have more jobs started than I have time to finish, don't know how that happens.
My latest toy is a 20" Lodge&Shipley with a 72" bed with an 7 1/2 hp Allis Chalmers motor on it that stands where some of the cows stood. That made me some extra projects for restorations repairs and breakdowns from friends on top of my own.
What is really funny is when you go for a tool and all of a sudden where in the **** is it now!!
So between corn, soybeans, projects, butchering steers & pigs, whitewater kayaking, skiing, home-brew, baking bread and cinnamon buns, 5 kids and grand children, did someone mention a recliner.
And all of this for no paycheck----- youall know how much money Farmers make.

So there you are Joe, a little insight on retirement.ClapSmileClapSmileClapSmile

I have already threatened to run away from home but none believes me.

Congratulations, Joe! I retired less than four weeks ago. To be honest I still haven't adjusted and it feels like I'm on vacation. Those Social Security people seem to take a long time to start paying.
