Can anyone help me please?? Was bailing with 444 and D17 when Baler started breaking flywheel shear pins. Timing is good, makes perfect knots an bales (when working). Problem is after tying a bale, needles will fall from retracted position back into bale chamber-causing plunger stop to engage, plunger then contacts stop and breaks shear pin. I believe knotted brake is totally worn - no adjustment left. Agco dealer says obsolete and out of stock. Does anyone know where I may find a knotted brake ( # 543546 ). Or is there something else that should needles in retracted position??? Thanks to all....Dan

You might take the brake off and go to a New Holland or another dealer to see if they will fit.

I put new brake pads on my 444 about 15 years ago and they were obsolete then. I took the brake assembly to a clutch rebuilder and he made some brake pads for it and riveted them on. He didn't charge much and it has worked perfect ever since.

Might be something Rick Corder (aka Rick) here could do as he relines brakes along with doing clutches? PM him. Mike

You should have a local shop that can add brake lining.

Thanks to all who responded. I followed suggestion and found a heavy truck shop and got brake rebuilt (also included a extra set of linings all for 25 bucks). Also think I found real source of problem. Large castle nut on left end of knotter shaft was loose, causing roller to slip past dog in clutch housing. Due to rain, not able to test it out...but am gaurdedly optimistic...Thanks again (I love to keep the old orange going)...Dan
