Plow points

You need to identify the bottom as described in AC Plows Parts 101 up above. Then you can shop for parts that may not be available.

At that point it may work to visit all the farm stores with an old plow point (share, blade) in hand to find one close in shape and size and to plan to modify it by grinding and to drill new plow bolt holes in the frog. There's no way to drill plow bolt holes in the share because its hardened steel and the holes often aren't round.

70 is the series, 73 is the plow frame model, but at least a dozen or two dozen plow bottoms fit. In that era nearly every AC plow bottom fits every plow frame.

The blade numbers that are in my plow bottoms book do fit all 6 bottoms, one is heavy, the 074 blade isn't in my book. The 331-333 bottoms share everything for a given width (these blades are 14") but the moldboards. The plow bottoms book doesn't describe or show the different in the moldboards. Same thing applies to the 361 to 363 bottoms. Without more information that is in the plow bottoms book, I presume that the different moldboards have different lengths and final curves, some being short for easily turned dirt and some very long for rolling sod over better.

When I bought new shares for my 63 semi-mounted plow 3 or 4 years ago, AGCO had discontinued the 3 hole share. All that is available now, as far as brand spanking new from AGCO and even aftermarket, is one type of share that has 4 holes. They will fit most, if not all, 60, 70, & 80 Series plow bottoms. 3 of the holes in the share will line up with the holes in the frog, there is just an extra hole that is used with later series plows. You could drill the frog for the 4th hole if you wish, or just leave it empty. I have the same catalog as Gerald, and I tied up an hour of my parts mans time trying to find NOS plow shares. Every number we tried was obsolete and superseded by a newer number, made from one type of steel and with 4 holes, that covered all of the older ones. The only place I have found new 3 hole shares is at auctions, and I'm holding on to those.

In some plow bottoms, the fourth hole is bolted to a strap that misses the frog and has a bolt in the back corner of the moldboard.

It would be handy to have a conversion list of old numbers to those new numbers on line or in my plow bottom's book.
