Last year I had the turbo outlet air elbow off the engine. I was surprised there was oil in it. So are new seals available for the turbo. It does look like the original turbo.

I can provide you with a new or reman turbo, but like Mack says, need to know which one you have. I don't know too many shops that actually rebuild/re-seal turbos in house anymore.

OK, in that case, I think we'd need to sell you the new TO4 turbo, plus the kit for the proper oil drain pipe and crossover pipe I think. I can find out tomorrow. This the same 7000 I did pump and injectors for? I think we can send the old Rajay in for rebuild and return but it seems like it costs a small fortune.

Yes it is the same 7000 you did the pump for. That's when I discovered oil in the pipe. I'll email you Ed.

Yep, even when new they had a high failure rate (oil leaks) compared to the Air Research turbo’s.

If it's running OK and not consuming oil, my $$$$ stays in my pocket (for now).

Is the motor vented properly? If not it will push oil past the turbo. Vent tube may plug up at times. Something that can be easily overlooked. If okay then just use as doc said. Keep and eye on it and see how wet it gets.

I took the air inlet elbow off today. There was a lot black carbon stuck in it. Also at the orange rubber sleeve connector, there was enough oil in there to make me order a new one from Ed.

ok, got another guy in a similar situation, just wanting him to see this thread to see if that oil fitting kit will be most of what is needed to convert from rajay. Hope it all goes smooth Tim!

I have been wanting to follow up on this project, been busy haying. Because the new turbo is bigger in the middle, I found I was off by an 1" for the charge pipe to make up. So I found a company in CA, that make off set silicone couplings. HPS - Manufacturer of High Temp Reinforced Performance Silicone Hoses , Aluminum Tubing & Stainless Steel Clamps So then I cut the pipe above the intake pre heater. In the pictures you can see it fabbed up. Tim

Can’t you just turn the air heater box 180*. If I remember correctly the air heater element faces to the rear.

The preheater is on correctly, the bolt holes pattern is offset,so it will only go one way.

A lot of extra messing around, but will be a better turbo, and now easier to replace down the road in another 20 years lol! Looks great Tim!

Thanks Ed. That charge pipe in mandrel bent. So I cut the pipe as far up as I could, and still have the clamps on a flat surface. The next project on the tractor is the brakes. Tim

Thanks for the compliments Ray, Dave. I forgot to mention I have the plate off the intake that was for the ether set up. I'm putting a horn relay and horn on it. So when I press the ether button, the horn blows. Dave we have had the wettest spring ever. It still rains all the time. I know it has been worse for many areas of the country. So I'm not complaining. Tim
