last series run with bosch injectors. Cranks at 30 degrees with no assist. Amazing, the difference ; we only sold 2 or 3 of the last production run, crank driven oil pump.. Traded for one that had 38" rubber, quite an increase in speed as well. ... Wheeeeeeeee.....

I have a 2ft oversized straight pipe on my 185. Last spring my brother was pulling seed wagon up a hill at night and you see a little purplish orange flame coming out of the pipe. It was pretty tough looking

Don't want to hijack this thread, but I thought I would just post again these videos that I have posted before.  This is my father's 185 that was purchased new in 1981.  It is serial number 185 15616 and has a model 649 engine. Also a scan of a picture of me sitting on it in 1982.

DanD I have been admiring that 185 for many years and didn't realize until now that it is one of the last ones made.

As for starting, mine is a pretty early version and had always started hard.  I recently installed new heavy gauge cables and two group 31 top post batteries. Now it whips over briskly and will start down to about 32 degrees with no glow plugs, prior to that it needed glow plugs at 60 degrees.

Tim our 185 is equipped with a straight pipe and turbo. Everyone at the farm wants to drive it . It is one sweet tractor. We use gauge one cables when we replace battery cables on our tractors. Also have electric fuel pump on the 185.

I really love the 180 and 185 diesels.  One of the best haying tractors.  They will run forever on a tank of fuel.  Also easy starters in the winter.

The cables are 2/0 with ends soldered on. The 31 batteries are bolt type posts so we had to change the cable ends anyway so we upgraded everything from the ground to the starter and the difference it makes is huge.
