 Topic: Foam Fill Tractor Tires

I just picked up a new to me Kubota. Needed a loader. Second time out brush hogging and picked up a nail in the rear tire. Spraying liquid ballast everywhere. Whats everyones perspective on foam filling tires and replace the liquid ballast? We've had a tractor with it for the past 30 some years and it seems indestructible. Thoughts?

Foam is not ballast, where Water and Methyl alcohol(WS Solvent)weigh around 7lb/gal foam only weighs around 1.5-2. Great for not needing air but is not ballast.

Yep. Actually meant to say "Rubber Filled" which is heavier and like ballast. Has been reading about the foam fill and guess had that on my mind.

If were considering that would be looking at the Airless tires. I tend to go with iron weights and air tires, best ride, easiest to work on...JMHO

Scott some of these guys have obviously never been around foam Filled tires. It is heavy. I have sent in dozens of skid loader tires and had them foam filled. It takes 2 good men to pick up a 12x16.5 foam filled skid loader tire and put it in the back of a pickup. Yes they ride rough. I would not recommend it if you are going to do a lot of road travel. If you don't want the calcium, next best thing is steel weights.

I'll second that. Used to run a tractor at work that had foam/rubber filled tires with a side mounted Tiger mower. They don't flex like you would think. Our loaders and Bobcat at work (landfill) have foam/rubber filled tires. If you have ever experienced flat spots on a sub-zero day, imagine having that every time you stop for any period of time. Even when it's 90* out. On the Bobcat might as well have steel wheels on it.

We had filled tires on some flight line equipment they have no flex and no traction. Replaced the filled tires on the bobcat with air filled tires. All of a sudden it became useful again. Withe the no air tires as soon as you went off the concrete you were stuck. It got real old having to drop the pallet and come back with a payloader to move it.
