    Posted: 22 Apr 2012 at 9:54pm
All in all I think Harvey had a good auction.  Harvey has been a good friend of mine for 18 years and helped me get started in the collection hobby when I was only 15 years old.  Through the years we have worked on projects together, gone to shows, auctions and some "toy finding" trips.  I walked around and shared many memories of Harvey's collection remembering when he bought alot of the items.

I had a good time and it was great to see everyone there!  I just wished the scrap buyer would have stayed home!  My girlfriend said she almost felt sorry for the guy for how everyone hated him.  I told her it was like a cat walking into a dog kennel, some things you just dont do if you dont want to be given a hard time!

Heres my trailer load of treasures, I got the pto rake(parts), the 12 foot snap coupler field cultivator(which I sold Harvey years ago!), and the two bottom clutch lift plow.  All three I outbid the junk man on.  I also purchased the thrower from the 302 baler from the buyer.  Very nice gentleman, same fellow bought the D14 and picker.  My neighbor also bought the Ford rear mounted loader, Ford dirt scoop, Ford 3 point hoist and the corn sheller.

Jim, thanks for posting the pics.  Wish I could have been there.   What did the yellow IB go for???  Kind of surprised he sold it.   Wouldn't have needed jackets if the sale were held here.  104 here today!!   Armand

Nice Pics Jim!  Wish I could have been there too.  Had a funeral to attend instead.  You did good!  I wish the price of scrap would drop to about $10 a ton.  Wish they would pass a law that wouldn't allow farm machinery to be sold for scrap or at least over seas.  Goes over as good steel and comes back as junk tools.

the 6140 tractor brought $5700, HD7crawler $2000, MM G1355 LP $7800.  yeah the scrap man was very aggressive but if your a serious buyer of working implements why would you let it sold on the scale?    perhaps we have become spoiled buying so cheap huh!

I have just sold some scrap lately and got $270/ton unprepared,

It is a shame that some stuff went to the scrap man but I have always thought, well if it is worth that dollar amount to a scrap man then it has to be worth a few dollars more to a collector then.. remember we can always sell it for scrap if we don't want it, the one bonus is we will always have it to resell later if don't want it.

i went o an auction once....the auctioneer really turned me and alot of other folks off...when he started the sale he said the sale won't last long as it's only got AC equipment on the sale! "WTF?" he really didn't work very hard for the bids...several times he wanted to say sold...but people kept bidding! he wanted to move on and move out! shucks...came to one AC item...think it was a plow....the first bid on it he yelled SOLD! and moved on to the next item...folks were getting p**sed! some even complained to him...he just looked at them, never said boo to them and moved on! dunno...but he must only want to sell big stuff! he is a well known auctioneer in Iowa, but i'll never go to any more of his sales!

It looked like I could see the front end of a Model D grader there as well. I am curious what it would have sold for.

Thanks Jim, that picker is so cool!

I really enjoy any old corn pickers, don't matter what color either.

Did it have any side panels for the engine that came with it?

Don,

The D14 and picker went for around 4400 I think.  I know it was more than 4000 and less than 5000.
