Hello all.
Could one of you get a ruff measurement of the battery cables please. From starter to battery and grounds for a double batt set up. And tell me the gauge of the wire. Preferably the heavy duty cable. I’m not near our tractor and want to make sure I have the right materials to make up new ones. Thank you vary much

Here is a pic of my 1975 185 Battery Setup. The cables/terminals are factory originals. The negative side ground to the fender support out the rear/back corner of the battery box - not much cable. The positive routes up thru the area under the fuel tank. I do not have any pics of the positive routing or terminations. I am in Calgary, and the 185 is in Eastern Ontario so I can't provide the measurements. Sorry I can't help you more, but this will give you some ideas for the batteries end of the system. The cables are heavy duty as you can see. There is some room in the box for extra cable if you have a bit extra. Good luck with your project
(sorry for the large pic) |

Same as a 180 Diesel. I like batteries with offset terminals better. They provide more clearance for the rib that goes down the middle of the bottom side of platform cover. Shorted out a battery once because of terminals like those pictured.

Following up on your request for 185 battery cable lengths/size (including your thread "185 Hard Start - Nov 28 which included some excellent battery cable info from members).......... I could get you the cable lengths once I get access to the tractor in mid May, but that is probably not good for your schedule to get your 185 fired up for spring work Perhaps you will get some lengths before then..... As caledonian noted above, the battery cables setup for the 180 Diesel is similar, so perhaps there is an opportunity to get some info from a 180 Diesel owner |
