Hello Everyone.

I had taken off both my muffler on my HD16 to repair and while I was at it, took off the exhaust manifold as well to clean and paid.

Muffler turned out great. While taking off the exhaust manifold, two studs snapped off however I was able to get them both out without damage to the heads.

in replacing the studs are they anything special? They are 1/2" and threaded on both ends of course. Do you need to place any Loctite on the ends going into the block or is that a no no?

BTW I found a small whole worn through on on of the ports but cleaned it up and JB welded it just fine. I found two adjustable bands around this one port and was hoping it was not holding the manifold together. Someone had used the two bands to hold a piece of high temp material over the whole to plug it up. Overall manifold is pretty solid to my relief.

If it's been working I don't believe I'd try to fix It. You might take what you have and try to improve on it a bit. Sometimes these little fixes hold up quite well.

Agreed. Just cleaning, all new gaskets, and painting. Treating it gently as these manifolds are impossible to replace.

My son works with s prototype engineering company and are going to scan my manifold and see about milling a new one. Just looking into it but if they do it, might be something to offer this great group.
