Hi all I just got a e3 engine and I was wondering what all had yo be changed to bolt up to a wd.

Start by removing the flywheel, starter and starter mount plate, water pump and crankshaft pulley from the E-3 engine. Use your WD flywheel and a 9-spring pressure plate from a WD-45 and a 4-button clutch disc from a Gleaner K combine. Drill out your WD water pump holes oversize and mount it to the E-3 block. You might have to bore clear thru your WD crank pulley to get it to slide on the E-3 crank nose, just depends...some do, some don't. Fan belt will run a little crooked with this set-up but for a puller, it will make no difference. Then, there's the governor control linkage to transfer over from one front cover to the other.

I put a couple washers under the waterpump pulley to space it out a little to true the belt up some, might have to tweak the oil lines by the oil filter to clear steering shaft

I've always wondered this about puller tractors...Does that extra power ever harm things in the transmission/rear end of the tractor that was made for a lower hp engine?? I know they used to have that problem in the Ford 8N's with the straight 6 and V-8 Funk conversions.

I'm sure if you installed a 67 flywheel HP E-3 engine in a WC chassis and farmed heavily with it, you'd eventually fail something in the transmission or rear end, but for a minute or two of tractor pulling and probably at a reduced weight compared to field weight, nothing bad ever seems to happen. In fact, there are MANY WC's well over that 67 HP figure than you can ever imagine.
