Do yourself a big favor and throw all that stuff away !!!! Purchase a good quality 30 amp toggle switch or push/pull switch and wire the fans direct from the alternator with this switch in-between. Probably be a good idea to have a 30 amp fuse included to be safe.

What was the point in having that stuff anyways, the older monitors had a switch with out having to have that box. |

I have the same setup and never have had a problem. Have spare parts and never needed them. I think at planter Serial # 1216 they stopped using the switch control on the monitors that had them. Then went to the extra control switch. I prefer the setup so all I have in the cab is the monitor and switch. All the extras stay on the outside. Does the switch face indicators lite up or do you think the problem is in the relay/switch box? DA said it was because of a monitor situation and Dickey John claim they don't know why DA changed. I had my monitor redone last year and it came back with the blower control cable hanging out the back. Call me if you want......

Daehler,
That box looks just like mine. I'd sell you mine for 50 cents, but would be overcharging you. I took Dr. Allis's advice, and just wired in a switch. Also, the fans are only 9A per, so the super heavy wiring running back to the fans is overkill, except it is rugged. I came off the battery with two #10 primary wires, but spliced an in-line automotive fuse right away from the battery. I ran those two wires to a regular electrical box, where I brought in the two primary wires to connect up with the heavy cabling going on back to the planter. I wired the ground straight through, but broke the hot wire with a regular household switch. I tried to use an automotive toggle switch, but anymore they are all cheapo Chinese stuff, and there wasn't enough room between terminals for the wires, but a regular switch was easy to install in the box and did the job. Anyway, when I got through I had a nice rugged little switch wired in a metal switchbox that I just fasted to the loader subframe on the D17. I have a dual top and sidepost battery, so it was simple to just crimp large loops on the primary wires and bolt them right to the battery. I figure one day I'll sort out the original electrical box, but it looks like a bunch of early 80 electronics, that were never very reliable to begin with. One other thing. I had one blower fan that wouldn't want to start up sometimes. Someone had posted on a replacement fan that NAPA carried (I forget the number). Anyway, don't waste your money. While the motor is physically the same, it blows way less air when I compared it to the remaining original. I put the original back on, and after running it a while it freed up, and seems to be working fine now. Also, thanks to everyones advice, I located replacement 2 1/2" air hoses by finding replacement shop vac hoses at Lowes for $15. Along with 2 1/2" flexible rubber couplings, I have the new air hoses looking like they came from the factory. |

Let me give you a scenario that has happened far too many times to count.....a beautiful planting day and the way the weather has been lately, planting needs to get done and get done quickly. You travel to the field and fill all the boxes with seed and insecticide and fertilizer and you're ready to go, AND THEN THE FANS WON'T TURN ON !!!!!!!!!....so much for a productive day of planting, and a manual toggle switch will be installed as soon as the local field tech gets there.

Mack,
Not to hijack the original thread, but I was thinking along the same lines of eventually putting in a hydraulic motor and blower, since I have two remotes. How critical is the airflow on these planters? Now that I had mine apart a few times, I have a sense of the volume of air the blowers push, which is a hefty amount. Can there be too much air? Is there a kind of narrow window on the air requirements, or could one just put in a big blower (within limits of course - wouldn't want to blow the seed clear up out of the hoppers!). |

AllisUpstate
The air pressure needs to be 2 1/2 - 3 inches of water colum, which is not much. I think it takes about 15 inches of water column to make 1 PSI. (If I'm wrong some let me know) MACK
