My uncle mentioned a recall on dog food due to aflatoxin. Looked it up. https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/midwestern-pet-foods-voluntarily-recalls-pet-food-recall-aflatoxin-health-risk
28 dogs have died so far. Spot mix is the brand mentioned in the article. Any one else heard this?

TSC carries that brand. We feed one of their grain free varieties to our beagles.

When I had to feed an abandoned cat(daughter's cat), I would buy the cheapest hot dogs at Aldis for about the same price as wet cat food in a can and they didn't smell like a roadkill.

Well,,I had a mysterious death on the female Great dane that was to take ole Hungry's place just bout 3 months ago. She was bout 6 months old ans one day out of the blue I found her in her dog house as she had passed that night. No indications as to why. I've always used The Premium walmart dog food as it contains the exact ingredients as the Purina and Alpo. I've been told by a couple of Veternarians not to switch a Dogs groceries as dogs are very sensitive to changes in their food,,,,, I think I have seen that brand of dog food at TSC,,,,,

That's to bad about your pup Joe.I don't know if I believe those vets about diet for any critter. But it has been a few 1000 years since dogs lived on what they could catch. Cause they would of never made if they had to eat heathy. Wink I have never found a dead coyote from eating grapes, and you can find coyote poo with grapes miles from a vineyard. The latest vet approved diet is not to feed dogs fruits and nuts.Wink Every walnut grower here has had a dog that loved to eat walnuts. Some critters just have things that don't agree as much as others. The same as I Wink can get to much fiber in my diet. Yes my gut is backwards to the way most work, never needed constipation meds.

I had a Springer Spaniel once, that when you stepped out doors eating something she would want some of it. When you broke off a piece of it and tossed it to her a piece she would knock it down and smell it. If it smelled good she would eat it, and then want more. Then when you tossed her another piece, she would catch it in the air and eat it.

Well,,,the rest of my DOG story is slowly unraveling,,,I don't think I had mentioned that after the Great Dane Female passed due to an unexplained reason,,I decided to try my hand on a German Shephard male that had the biggest parents I've ever seen. I got him at 6 weeks old and eating regular dog food. and suppossedly with all the Puppy Shots except the Rabies.
Well,,Sunday,, I noticed he was not his usual self running and getting in my way,,,,, Aw chit,,!! He kept gettin worse and I finally hauled him to the vet this morning and He's got Parvo,,!!!AW CHIT,,NOW,,I'm thinkin the breeder of the female Great Dane also lied to me about the friggin shots,,because this GS is acting the same that the Great Dane was,,,,,!!!!! The Vet gave me some pills for him as their "hospital" was  plumb full with dogs with Parvo,,!!! I been reading up on the web and there is some hope as we caught it early,,(I Hope) There are several remedies that people have tried with good results and keeping them hydrated is most important along with the medication to fight the parvo in their stomach.
I don't know if I got any recourse with the two breeders, but they BOTH told us that they had their puppy shots at 4 weeks,,,and I'm almost sure the Great Dane also died of Parvo. I'm so friggin MAD,,,,,,

that Parvo is a BAD thing! seems that about all dog/cat food makers are in direct compitition with Purina. so why not just feed the Purina?  i do know that Purina does not import ingrediants from other countries for their products. remember years ago that some companies pet foods were killing our pets? was because they imported wheat from China and it had some kind of effect on the pets, they were dying from it. i hope your puppy pulls thru Joe!

Yes Joe, I hope your new baby pulls through.
That's all I ever fed my dogs, Purina.  Back before the internet, I did a lot of research at the library and found it was the best as per ingredients.  When it comes to your family, what's a few $$$?

Well,,,an update for the dog lovers amongst us here,,,,,,"I THINK" the German Shephard Puppy is gonna make it from the Parvo Virus,,,,,ClapClapClapClapClap
YEA,,,I'm so glad,,I really worked hard to save his life as Those pills the vet gave me had to be taken every 6 hours with some Pedialyte and since I never sleep worth a chit anyway it wasn't that big a deal,,,BUT it worked. I had moved his Dog house into the Utility room with a small heater in there. For the first 4 days all he did was lay in the dog house and didn't really fight me when opening his mouth to shoot the meds (Ondansetron) with a syringe down the throat. I had checked out a thread on the internet where this woman had saved her puppy after a 7 day effort. Along with the meds,,She fed her dog with BABY FOOD thinned with Pedyalite like they use for babies and warmed up a bit !!! Also, every fourth feeding, she gave the puppy a teaspoon of Pepto Bismal with the syringe to help fight the virus in the stomach,,,,Clap Well,,Sunday morning, ole Bowser was standin up waitin for his groceries and almost grabbed the syringe witht the Baby Food and he actually opened his mouth so I could shoot them Goodies down his throat,,,ClapClap He also drank a little water and THAT was the best sign that he had just about beat the parvo virus. This morning he followed me out the door and walked around a bit til he got tired as he was still a little weak and wanted back into the utility room,,,,I AM STOKED,,,,Clap
If anybody is interested,,I will send you a detailed write-up to save your puppy.

Indeed, having a dog is not easy at all and you always have to be informed of everything that is best and qualitative for him depending on his breed, age, and many other important aspects. I have had a dog for a long time and I always insist on being informed so that I can give him comfort and safety because I want him to feel good next to me. Recently I found out that dogs need to be given dog dental water additives periodically, about which I didn't even know. Good thing I found it on https://thepetsmaster.com/best-water-additive-for-dogs-teeth/ and ordered. Did you know about that?

Meow Mix-brand cat food sold by Walmart in eight states is being recalled because it might be contaminated with salmonella, manufacturer J.M. Smucker announced in a notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration.

https://barkpost.com/good/dry-foods-no-recalls/

We know how deeply you care about your dog, and I, for one, am especially sensitive to the kinds of food I put in my pup’s belly. It amazes me how much I scrutinize the nutrition label on a bag of dog food, yet I don’t give my foods a second glance when it comes to ingredients.

Your dog is family, and so he should be fed with the same amount of care you feed your fellow humans. After a bit of digging and contact with representatives from each of the following companies, I present to you a list of 15 high-quality dry dog foods with no recalls, ever.

***Please note that this small list certainly does not contain every single brand of dog food that is recall-free.*

Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

We usually feed our Maltese brosted chicken, or meatballs, ham, with sweet potatoes.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Per my vet, breeders give worthless shots to pups. This is b/c the pups are not weaned or weaned sufficiently long to get mom's antibodies out of their system for vaccines to be effective.

Good job catching it early Joe. That’s what saved the pup. You’ll have to be careful with all young pups at your place. For a time. From what I’ve read it lives in the ground and other young pups without proper shots will pick it up.
