Just installed L306 under my CA.  First time mowing.... belt and pulleys get hot.  Seems like this is not right.

After using it for a while I cannot put my hand on the big PTO pulley it is so hot.  Belt seems gummy from the heat.

I don't think the belt was slipping on any of the pulleys.  I stalled the tractor a couple of times in high grass on little mounds of dirt.

Is this normal ?

Hard to say.  All the horsepower it takes to mow is being transmitted by the belt.  It flexes, changes direction, grips, torques.....it's going to get hot.  How hot? . . . seems "gummy from the heat" is probably a tad too hot.  Maybe a touch too tight?  Pulleys all in reasonable alignment?  Turn freely?   You're in Florida, how hot was it outside?

Those Woods mowers are Finish mowers, not meant for tall grass.  Trying to cut 6 inches or more of grass with one will cause things to heat up.

Yeah, what he said.  All that and you stalled it a couple times, sounds like it was being pushed to its max.

Yep! You won't want to put your hand on them after running. :) We have ours adjusted so it slips belt though! Sounds like you got it to tight!
