Someone supposedly stole equipment and not new stuff either. It was not my stuff, I just found this ad on craigslist and thought do the thieves really think they can get away with it and not go to prison?

They get away with it all the time or they wouldn't keep doing it. I remember seeing an add for a skid loader and trailer last year sometime. The skid loader was on the trailer strapped down and the thief just backed up to the trailer, coupled it up and drove away. Ya just gotta make it harder for em and they'll go down the line and find sompin easier.

Was at a farm meeting one time and they had a deputy speak, most farm machinery is stolen in broad daylight. Thieves just pull in load up and drive away and nieghbors if they notice at all assume it's legit.

They recently caught a family (in a neighboring county) with 40 acres of misc stuff stolen over the past few years.  Had everything from chainsaws to backhoes.  Neighbors became suspicious and called law enforcement. Farm was isolated and just stuff sitting everywhere (indoors & out).
Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

How many of you have a list of serial numbers for your equipment??

Also, a couple of pictures of each piece of equipment is easy, with today's digital cameras, and would help recovery efforts.

They steal all sort of machinery around the state of MO, I could not leave my equipment at Salem MO(Dent County) due to the high theft loss rates and ease of which it is for them to make off with the stuff so trailered every time I needed to go there.  Cost me a ton in fuel money and wear and tear on my truck to do it that way.  Many around Callaway/Audrain/Montgomery and Warren Counties also have this issue, they just drive in and haul the stuff off to another county and sell it, hard to track.

i'd love to see theft of tools (including tractors, etc.) recognized as a more severe crime than stealing "other stuff" with punishment to match. but then i also would like to see intact borders. not much hope currently for either.
52 CA, 41 B and a little B1    oh, yeah... and an 8N ford snuck in there, too.

Yes they have probally aready sold the stuff! And yes they do get away with it all the time!!!!! And law isn't helping us or stopping them from doing it! Our insurance keeps going up though! Last ones we caught, NEVER DID ANY TIME!!!!!! and from what we heard are still doing it. I have no use for our local law inforcement! They don't seem to care. Laws need to change. Spare life for 1st time, if caught again, goodbye!

Earlier this year a crew came in to the local Ford dealership. They jacked up, removed the tires and rims, and left 23 cars and trucks on blocks. This was on a weekday, at night, lighted parking lot, near highway, across the street from 2 apartment complexes and next door to a manufacturing plant... Over $80,000 worth of +20" chrome and aluminum wheels on brand new vehicles. interesting sight to see all the vehicles on blocks, most on the front row! Thieves are getting braver by the day. Our nation is becoming more and more corrupt. Current governmental ideals may have some bearing on the actions of how criminals operate and are punished.
