In what years were the blue letters correct?

1950 was black. My father bought my WD new in 1950 and they were black.
The letters were even.

I thought 1950 was the first year for black decals. Lyle Wacker Decals used to have all that info. I don't know if any of his family still do decals or how to get in contact with them. Lyle passed some years back.

After doing a little searching it appears that the black, even sized Allis Chalmers decal started in January 1950 and the WD decal was added to the side of the radiator shell in June of 1951. Like I said, if you could get a hold of someone from the Lyle Wacker family, they may still have the serial number splits.

Too bad Deutz threw away pretty much all that info and AGCO doesn't care.

Now to hijack the post a little bit. Did anyone else notice that CaseIH cared enough about its heritage that for 2019 they offered new combines painted in the 1977 decal and color scheme including a big IH decal on the grain tank and off white wheels and cab top?

My dad's 1949 which I have now were black with the tall A and S. Grandpa's 1951 which I also have now were black, but letters were all the same size. Both were bought new by them. Neither one had the WD on the radiator shell but they do have to shutter adjuster decal.

Sharp looking machines! Got good reviews from the red crowd.

Dads 49 were black. Maybe they changed mid year? 49 was the first year of the WD I believe.
