Daughter"s Dog Passed, Wondering?

   About a week ago ole possum went off her feed.  Totally out of place for her.  Second day went to the vet, all he came up with was elevated white and low red count.  Said some kind of rare tick born disease or something.  Gave antibiotics.

things wet down hill fast and the fourth night she passed.

I am a suspicious type and am wondering if a deviate could have been to her house and slipped the dog something or she got into some other sort of poison.  My wife (nurse) says the white count says something besides poisoning got her.

I gotta do some research but was wondering if someone already knows if poison would/could have the same effect on the blood count in the final stages.

I won't go into the living situation and employees since that would take a book.

Loosing ole possum was really a hit.  She even slept with the grand son.  Was a labradoodle.  

Appreciate any comments on the cause.

	Mom was a nurse, wife is a nurse, neighbor and best friend is a vet.....personally unqualified! But, all that I've been around all my life, says elevated white blood count is the body fighting an infection, virus, bacteria.... I don't know of a poison that does that. Rat poison caused internal bleeding, antifreeze shuts down the kidneys with crystals.... In any case, so sorry for the untimely loss of part of your family. Good dogs are a very special part of a family, sad to see them go like any other.

	Can't help on a prognosis, but I'm sorry for the loss of a great friend and family member.

	Sorry and sadden to hear this. Lost a dog about 3 years ago, she was diagnosed with a name about 20 letters long. In better words, it was a form of Leukemia for dogs. She seemed fine one day, the next started to bleed out of the rear. Went to vet and did blood work, etc. They told us what it was, her blood counts were low I think on red and white cells? She got a few blood tranfusions to try to help, but it was not helping and just prolonging what was natures way of doing things. She was put down. The vet said it was or most likely triggered by a tick bit.

	Sorry to hear about the pooch. Always tough. I don't have a dog at present but everytime I took my ole dog to the vet he was vaccinated for something new. Alot of tick borne stuff.
	Everything is impossible until someone does it! WD45-trip loader 1947 c w/woods belly mower, 1939 B, #3 sickle mower 1944 B, 2 1948 G's. Misc other equipment that my wife calls JUNK!

	Is tough losing one of the family as all our pets ended up. Doodle's tend to be susceptible as are most specific cross breeds to odd diseases unlike mutts that seem to be able to live in raw sewage eating and drinking what will kill anything else. Miss all my old pets, have plenty of photos but their time is so much shorter than ours. Currently have two both mutts one 15 the other 13 or 14(rescue dog). 	I too am sorry for the loss of her buddy! I hope she'll rescue another as i'm sure there's a nuff love for another! we've lost a couple to the cancer thing. and we always make sure they all get the flea & tick & skeeter protection. sure...it's expensive, but cheaper than kids, and vet visits all the time.

	I agree with you on the mutts D. I picked mine up along the road. She was in a bad way at the time but recovered and is now retired and wiling away her senior citizen/dog years.
