Can the solenoid valve be removed without taking the pump off the tractor? Since I bought the tractor a couple of years ago, it has always been a little sticky if the tractor sits unused for a period of time. Is there a way to clean it? Today I had to run a jumper wire from the buss bar on the starter and keep energizing it many times until it would allow the fuel to flow. It would only burn the ether before I finally got it opened. Many thanks!

Are you sure it is the solenoid or could it be the metering valve... Remove the fitting to the drip line, remove the 3 small bolts ( 5/16" wrench) remove the wire to the switch or make sure it is off and lift off the top cover. Now ground it and touch the wire to the solenoid. It should click and move the flapper every time the wire touches the tab it attaches to. IF it does it is likely the metering valve sticking. With your finger jiggle it up and down and back and forth via the tab that sticks up and contacts the torque screw at the back rear of the pump. It should move up and down and back and forth. Reinstall and add 2 quarts of Mercron or auto trans fluid to diesel tank - helps clean varnish. OF course if the solenoid is bad replace it. Available from internet. The seal should be ok to reuse.

A quality injector cleaner or (anti gel product when weather conditions require) such as Power Service brand will clean sticky injectors and pump plungers. It may also help with your fuel shut off valve. Today's ULSD doesn't have the lubrication properties that high sulphur fuels used to have. Add it every time you get without exception for best results.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |
