I know what Terry Dean's book gives for the location but I can't locate it. I'm looking on top of the rear end housing below the back of the seat frame. removed some paint but have not seen a number. Do you have to remove the seat frame to locate it ? Where am I going wrong?

Hi Rod.
It's right next to the very back edge in the center. Might have a hydraulic line over it. It should be directly behind the seat base on top.

If there is a decal in the back center top next to the back edge, it could be there under it.
It'll start D19 xxxxxx

Seems like it may over to the left of center. Been awhile since we had one, but I remember it took me a while to find it the first time. If it original, there shouldn't be a decal or line covering it.

This area is below the rear seat pan on top of the rear end housing. It was were the book said it was to be found, but under the decal.D-19 6893. 1962 model narrow front gasser. Thanks for the help
