I'm building a 262 to pull I am looking for ideas on a higher compression piston does any one have an idea of what could be used with the stock sleeves. I have diesel pistons but I think they are to tall.

Use a standard piston with a longer rod, or use the diesel piston with a shorter rod. Make any compression ratio you want.

You can machine .200" or .250" off of the tops of diesel pistons and use a thick diesel head gasket....been there dun that many years ago.....don't remember the exact depth of material but it's between .200 and .250.

I would guess you are going NA ? If turbo the diesel pistons won't take it. MACK

I will be running na, I will be running it in the 4500lbs modified stock antique class, the tractor is actually a D17 diesel with a gas 262 out of a CII combine, I do have the pistons out of the diesel engine, so I will try shaving those pistons, I really didnt want to shave the block, how thick of a head gasket are you talking about, or do you just mean to use the diesel gasket.

Diesel gasket is much thicker than a gas gasket.

I've been pullin this tractor for a couple of years with the diesel, but with blowing head gaskets and lack of power was never competative. In the classes in ky we were never able to run a turbo. So i decided to build this engine hoping to hang with the Olivers with the bigger 6cyl that dominate the light classes. Funny thing is i was told i could never get this tractor less than 5000lbs, she ways in just under 4500lbs now with very little stripped off of it, but i plan to weigh in at 4000lbs when i am finished. If you need any parts for the 262D shot me a message i still have many parts off the old motor, including a good block. Will post pictures when tractor is done.

Wrbewley, there is a combination using the cockshutt version of the same motor that is sleeveless and had a big bore but short stroke. You just need to put the 262 crank in it cause it's longer stroked. I don't remember if it was 280 or 290 something cube. I'd like to see one pull done up that way.

What kind of rule won't let you run a turbo on a tractor that came from the factory with a turbo? Nonsense!!

The tractor is actually a d17 which had the same motor as the 19 but it was not turbo, so according to our rules no turbo allowed on the 17.

Blown head gaskets is no problem. Have been running 70 Lb boost on a 262 and have never blown a head gasket. MACK

I thank the six cracks in the head had a lot to do with it, I was blowing gaskets about every two hooks.
