 Topic: D17 Tie Rod Problems

So today I changed the front tires and rims on my D17iv and i replaces the worn old tie rods completely (inners and outers). I got everything put in tightened up and ready to go. I turned the steering wheel and the tie rods slipped inside of each other, I figured I didn’t tighten them enough so I tightened them some more and well two sets of bolts later I still can’t get them right enough to keep from slipping. I bought the tie rods as a set so they are the right pair for each other. Any thoughts? I went up in tire size from 6-16 to 7.50-16 does that matter in this issue?

I had the same problem on my 190. The biggest problem with the aftermarket tie rods is that the clamp is too small. I took the clamps off of the original set and used them. The rods also fit too loose in the tube making it difficult to clamp.

Do as Joe says, I think the old ones are spot wielded on. Grind the little weld off and put on your new tie rods. The new tie rod clamps wont hold if you put antiseeze on the rods. I left both clamps on mine

Poor specifications and quality control. They don't make things as good as they once did.

This happened with my D15 II some time ago. New inners and outers and getting the spacing and toe-in set, I spot welded on top so I could change it

Had the same problem on our Series IV D17. As others have said, use the clamps that were factory original to the tractor...they will stay tight.

I had the same problem working on a red tractor, same poor quality just different color paint.
