Do series 3 D17's take a longer threaded spark plug than earlier models?

Yes.  The early D17's took the 3/8" plug, while newer D17's (including the Series III) took the 3/4" plug.  I don't recall when exactly the change was made, but I can guarantee you that the Series III took the longer plug (assuming no one has ever changed heads or engines or something along those lines).  The shorter plugs are AC 45 or Autolite 295.  The longer plugs are AC 45XL or Autolite 64.

Alright thanks DanD and Steve it's much appreciated. Just wasn't sure beacuse we had a early D17 and it had the shorter threaded plugs but thanks again

The standard version of the 64 power tip plug is the 404. It is usualy easier to find in stock. Our WD has a '17 head and we have been running the next hotter #405 Autolites in it for a long time. They work very well for our use which is mostly pretty light work.

figure out how to get the rings to seal and you might be able to do heavy work without the need for hotter oil burning plugs.

Mitch, is it hard to stand up on one foot all the time? Maybe you're getting used to it since you have one foot in your mouth all the time. Butch said he does mostly LIGHT work with the WD and the plugs he uses work fine for that.

I think the series I had the short plugs.  My series II has the longer ones.
1945 WC on full steel, WD wide front, WD45 power steering, 1966 D-17IVfactory 3 point.1967 D-17IV SC. 1973 rotobaler white top. orange top roto, model 90 combine,82S, four bottom plow.302 baler.
