d17 series IV 3pt problem

i bought a d17 series 4 and cant get the 3point to work ive taken all the linkage apart and freed it up but still can not get the arms to go down.. any thoughts .. thanks

Since you already have all the linkage free, you have completed the first step. Place both traction booster and depth control levers all the way forward. From the rear, take the cap off the hydraulic spool closest to the fender and with a punch gently tap in the spool. The arms will drop.

These tractors typically need quite a bit of weight to lower the lift arms in my experience. None of my allis chalmers lower without help. Unlike my fords that drop to the ground with a push of a lever.

My A-C 3 pts all drop on their own weight

None of mine have factory 3 point so that may be my issue with them needing added weight.

You're both correct.  Many series 4 D-17's thru 7000 tractors need someone standing on the 3-point to get them down, with the engine running and/or with COLD hydraulic oil. Many others will drop on their own weight, especially with the engine shut OFF. No two tractors exactly the same, but YES, some need a little weight on them at times.

it still wont go down i even tried putting the skidster bucket on them and pushing down... nothing

Next step. These arms have been stuck UP for years. Disconnect one of the connections to the lift arm hydraulic cylinders. I don't care which one, but disconnect completely one of the hoses or lines. Engine off. Push down with your skidloader again. Be prepared for oil to squirt.

i got it! thanks guys! got the hyd spool leaking now lol but at least the arms work
