i think something happened to my govener it will idle fine but when you give it a little throttle the rpm keep going up untill you push the throttle back to a idle.How hard is it to get to the govener weights?

Governor weight broke off.  Probably have pieces down in oil pan.

Pull the distributer houseing out of the tractor, you must find the two steel wear inserts from each of the gov weights as it will ruin the cam and/or crank gears if it goes thru them, some stuff may be in the oil pan.

Check your timing gears really really close for bent or broken teeth. Will cause a knock if bent tooth and if you replace one gear you should replace all or an unseen bent tooth will just take out teeth on new gear. Don't ask how I know. Hopefully you don't have gear damage.
