When operating D17 (Dad's old tractor), engine speed will creep up to full throttle without changing throttle setting. I suspect broken spring or weight in governor. Shop manual says to remove radiator to access governor. Looks like governor oughts to be accessible without removing radiator.?.? Any got any thoughts or advice?? Thanks..Dan

Remove the right side panel under the fuel tank, following the linkage you'll see a friction slide. Check the friction pads for tension, maybe a little tightening adjustment may help. Also, look at the tension spring that attaches from the left support frame to the pivot, sometimes it may be broken.

Thanks guys, I appreciate feedback on governor issue. I guess first thing is check friction block and linkage. If ok then it sounds like I can get into governor without radiator removal. Another related question, with engine off and throttle lever closed...shouldn't there be a little tension on carburetor to governor rod? Mine will just flop back and forth under those conditions..Thanks..Dan

Bill, I think I am ok on the friction think. However I am unsure of location of spring you mention...Can you explain it so this dumb farmer can find it, it sounds like maybe the culprit I am looking for..Thanks..Dan
