D17 Radiator differences Gas and Diesel

   I was shopping for a radiator for a very early D17 Diesel.  I don't have the proper part number so that is probably the main problem. Anyways the only info I can find that actually lists what model D17 that radiator covers is for Gas and LP. I can't find any stating they fit the diesel, Some listings just don't specify what model D17 the radiator covers.  Another problem related to finding the right radiator I came across, relates to the lower radiator hose for diesel applications, the sellers  state that their diesel hose will only fit D17 diesels s/n38964 and above and mine is 1212 so that's another Delema. As far as the radiators go one common part number sold for D17 is 70229702. This is supposed to be for a Gas/LP only  But what is confusing is some of the pictures for this part number show the lower radiator connection to be on the right and some on the left. My lower is on the left or driver side. Are the gas radiators on the right, and Diesel on the left, is that the difference? On Ebay, for instance, one listing( 264278920518 ) for part number 70229702  shows the lower inlet on the left and then the very next listing for the same part number( 390333249439 ) show it on the right. Diesel is opposite side of gas.

You can use the AGCO online parts books at Agco Parts Books to find your part numbers. Sign in as a guest user. Below is the page I believe you need for your D17. Note the serial number breaks.

If you have the old radiator you might look into getting a new core installed at your local radiator shop.

I agree with the above post. I always get my rads recored. It saves a lot of the difficulty you are experiencing.
Keep in mind, a LOT of people on e-bay have no idea what they are talking about. The only things I buy on e-bay are owners manuals.

Hawsie, good luck with finding the right radiator for your tractor... If you have the origional , maybe better to get a quality recore and have your tanks soldered on.

 Right at present, I have a series IV gas rad. that I took in and was told after hot tanking boiling, it was no good. fellow says he can get me a cheap foriegn made radiator for 560 bucks, just bolt it in, and he can get a heavy duty core and solder my tanks on to it for 590 bucks!  mmm and I need something on that tractor to see if it is worth fixing...
 Looked on ebay and those radiators are from 462 to 700 bucks... sheesh, some look like just flat upper and lower tanks and others look like they were formed tanks. an some don't supply pics.
  I am thinking of taking one off another older/earlier D17 and test it out... to see if the tractor is worth spending money on.
  And sadly like DSeries4 said, "Keep in mind, a LOT of people on e-bay have no idea what they are talking about" that truth is very obvious in many of those sellers. ask a question and get a "DUH!" of an answer. Or they list an item that it fits this this this and that tractor etc. when it only fits one of them. Arrgh!
  Like the lift arm latches for the snap coupler, a seller is selling a light duty set and claims it fits D19, yea, it might fit it but it is no way as heavy duty as the D19 requires.

Thats a good idea, I used to get radiators re cored quite a bit. We have big radiator shop that does industrial and commercial re-coring. They had about 10 guys working and do right in front of you. I used to know the owner and we had a cash and carry deal. I haven't been there in 10 years but I looked and Beko radiator is still there. I guess since at least in automotive all the radiators are throw away design now I haven't needed re coring much, but I do remember in the past they saved me a lot of money over the years.
