My series I D17 power steering started leaking badly at the lower fitting at the steering gearbox.  I believe it is called the return line.  While checking the leak the fitting that screws into the housing and provides a flange tubing connection broke off.  I was able to get the broken part out with an easy out, but now where can I get a replacement fitting.  It is a steel fitting with SAE male threads of about 9/16 and a female tubing flange fitting for about 3/16 tubing.  I think the SAE end had an O ring.

That fitting is the pressure/supply line for the control valve. It is 3/8" male pipe thread where it screws into the control valve, not Oring.  That connector should be p/n 70915484 from an AGCO dealership.

Doc, this gave me a chance to look in my Allis "Dealer Parts Catalog" and "Numerical Index" for "Standard Parts" book.
According to it, that part # equates to a 1/4" threaded male "Tube Fitting - Inverted Flared - Heavy" for 1/2" O.D. tubing.  Of course, a nominal 1/4" threaded fitting will measure out much larger than 1/4" because the size refers to the I.D.

GLG, You may have us barking up the wrong tree. Are you referring to the line that crosses over to the LH side of the tractor and connects to the control valve into which the steering shaft enters? I think that is what Doc is referring to as you said it was "at the lower fitting at the gearbox". You also said you thought it was a "return line" which sorta confuses the issue.
If it is the line to the control valve, it is a 1/2" steel line, much larger than the 3/16" size you refer to. The closest thing I can see to a "return line" is the bypass line which comes out of the P.S. pump directly into the main bolster directly under the pump. That is  3/8" tubing, still much larger than 3/16". On my D-17, the tubing nut for that line screws directly into the casting with no tapered fitting at all.
Perhaps you could clarify by selecting the part from the A-C parts manual?

go to your local NAPA or Bearing Warehouse... show them the two ends..

those are STANDARD hydraulic fittings... not made by Allis.

You can probably order from McMaster Carr or similar, if YOU know the size.

It is absolutely male pipe thread into the control valve, be it 1/4" or 3/8".

Absolutely.....but are we sure that's the line he is referring to?
Too many inconsistent pieces of info to make that determination.

Brian,
Thanks for the info.  The part number 0915484 is the connector for item 1 in the diagram that I need. The part costs $36 from Agco with $15 shipping so I searched for the part description that you found and located that fitting in brass from Discount Hydraulic Hose for $3.25.  I believe the brass fitting will be acceptable in this application.  Here is a picture of broken fitting with the same diagram that you showed me.
The discharge tubing measured 1/2" OD and the male threads measure 1/4"-18 NPT.

Most times just measure the fitting and its there,,and avaliable at hardware stores, auto parts stores, etc,  Allis did use different stuff sometimes - I guess to be unique- but never had to order a fitting

Doc actually correctly identified the item based on your location description.
The 3/16" size and SAE thread is what threw me off.
I looked at my D-17 and I see that my fitting is also brass......probably someone replaced mine some time in the past as well.
Glad you found what you needed.
