    Posted: 20 Jan 2012 at 10:27am
I have a D-17 that I use a rear lift to load round bales.  It has the 2 hose push/pull cylinder.  The last time I used it, it malfunctioned.  It would raise properly, but when lowering it, it has problems.  You must just barely push the lever to ge it to go down.  It sounds like it is under pressure and takes forever to go down.  Reverse hoses and it is just the opposite, problem raising.  So I feel the problem is in the valve and not the cylinder.  Is this correct, and if so, is it seals leaking inside the valve?  Is this repair complicated and where can parts be found?  Thanks for any help in this matter.

Thanks fellows for the wonderful info.  I finally got the chance to get a part and the D-17 is fixed.  Last spring I changed the male part of the quick coupling on the tractor.  Upon closer observation, I realized that the tip on the connector was about a third of the length of the others.  Changed to the correct tip and it worked fine.  Ya'll sure saved me a lot of time and wasted effort.  Thanks again.  The big question is why did this tip work all haying season and most of the  hay hauling before it acted up?  Thanks again.

The little poppets that touch in the coupler to make them open wear a little each time you put them on and take them off. So if the couple that you put on was just touching enough to allow flow after a few hook ups and disconnections they wear a little more and no longer opens up one side or the other. This wearing will be greater if you ever us a hammer or the piece of implemet to relieve the pressure on the coupler (always lower any implements to the ground or a lock them in the raised possition.
