Left side hex plug is trans? What/why two dipstick/breather combos on right. One opposite hex plug and one up by pulley block off plate. Frt rt one was 3in over full mark,rr rt one spot on and hex plug about 1in over full. Drain some or not? TIA

Hex plug is PD, other is trans. One on side of housing is hydraulic. I wouldn't drain any, if you use any large cylinders you will need the extra in the hydraulic. I use mine on a Mayrath auger sometimes and it is at least 3in over all the time, forget how many gallons I had to add to get it to raise first time.

If you are talking about allen head plug in side of torque tune, it is for the return from transport valve if it has one. The plug on right on top is trans. The one on top on left is for PD and Hyd. if series 111 or later. If it is early tractor hyd. will be on torque tube under fuel tank. MACK

When I split it at clutch, oil started running out of front of hsg behind throwout brg. I had to suck some out the front compartment to make it quit. Been sitting it the barn for a year with no leak there. Is there a seal up there?
It's an earlier model.Lights on radiator,bypass oil. Edited by SteveM C/IL - 14 Jun 2012 at 7:44am |

They aren't all that bad from AGCO, you will want the front gasket too. You need to drain the front torque tube housing, and leave the plug out, or you will get a bath when you pull out the front bearing "tube" that you are working on.

Well PHOOEY! It was kinda messy inside clutch hsg so I'd say it's been a seeper.Guess I ought to look into fixing that while it's split.Have no book and never been around a 17 so does that all fix from the front? Noticed the input shaft kinda runs uphill out of the sleeve so I'm guessing the PD is hanging on the back end and maybe the shaft cocking when split upset the seal/seals?

It is an easy fix, it all come out through the front. Just make sure you drain the oil first!!! As for the shaft being uphill, I bet the sleeve is what is actually crooked, but in any case rotate the input shaft a few times and make sure it is always in the same spot, i.e. does the crooked part rotate around, or does the close spot always stay at the top, i.e. is the shaft straight. I have a feeling that some of the tubes were welded crooked to the flange that holds them to the case. I have seen a couple dozen of the 17s apart, and at least two with a crooked bearing guide tube. It really doesn't hurt anything that I can see, as the throwout bearing tends to be loose enough on the carrier to allign with the cluth pressure plate, or the fingers on the pressure plate simply run in and out slightly as the flywheel rotates.
