Does anyone know of a reference list or where to find one that lists D17 gas engine serial numbers to year of manufacture?

I don't believe there is a list of the correlation between Engine and Tractor serial numbers for the D-17.
There was such a list posted on this site years ago for the WDs and WD-45s.

Maybe there can't be a direct correlation because engines were used for other purposes besides tractors?

Anyway, The numbers on my 1961 Series II D-17 are:

Tractor:      D-17 34633
Engine:      17-29111           (I believe this engine is original to the tractor)

The difference is 5,522

So, I would guess the difference between the numbers for that era tractor would be about 5,500.

Thanks for the info. I was just trying to see if the engine was possibly original to the tractor or at least what year the engine was manufactured.
I have a 1966 D17 Series IV.
Tractor: D17-85585
Engine: 17-71202-M

Looks about right.  14,000+ diesel tractors compared to 70,000 gas tractors.
