In my quest to fix the rusty ring and pinion along with noisy bearings on my early D17, I found a complete trans in excellent shape. I'm also replacing the PTO gears and bearings so I have the front section of the PTO shaft out too. Since my clutch pedal is very sloppy, I'd like to use the one off the parts unit. It looks like the clutch pedal stub is simply pressed into the housing. On the inside it has the detent ball and spring for the PTO lever. Can I simply press the stub shaft out with my porto-power and drive it back in the other tractor? I'm quite tempted to try to whittle a new one out on my new mini lathe.

Just getting a new bushing for the clutch pedal would be a substantial improvement without touching the stub.  I measured the diameter of mine in a spot that was not subjected to the wear of the pedal and got a bushing sized accordingly.

I'd love to just bush the pedal, but the stub is just about worn enough that the snap ring won't stay in, and that's with the PTO lever seal leaking on it keeping it well oiled too. From the looks of the pedals on the parts machine, it doesn't have near the hours on it.

I think I'm going to mark and pull the stub out of the parts tractor and see how tough it is to put back in. If it goes well, I'll put it in mine with some bearing set so it doesn't leak.
