Working on the D17 Series IV. The shop manual says to turn the brake rods to adjust the brakes. Does that mean to turn the brakes rods further into the disc brake or is there supposed to be an adjustment at the pedals? Previous owner welded hooks on the end of the brake rods to connect them to the pedals so its not quite so obvious how this is supposed to work.

The brake rod goes through a hole in the rear casting to connect to the mechanical linkage. It is threaded in there. Turning the rod clockwise will adjust the brakes tighter - there is no adjustment at the pedal. You need to disconnect at the pedal in order to adjust them.
