D15 II Front axle pivot worn? |

I got what looks like about 1/8 of material worn off the top of the front pivot on the wide front.
As a farmeized approach I was thinking of having the neighbor mig some material on there and work it down by hand to where it would be a lot better than just putting it back together.
Of course there is the issue of the bushing being worn through and the hole wollared out. I didn't have the courge to peek last night.
Anyway, any common practical soultions?

On my D-10 I bored it out and bushed it. Then I added a grease zerk. Why didn't the engineers never put on in there in the first place?

I have done what dusty did on several of the D12/D14/D15 rehabs. I have seen enough of "farmerizing" to know that this approach only serves to compound the difficulty to fix it later.

One option is to cut it off and weld on a new one. One can also turn it down and install a bushing over it.
I have seen the "farmerized" weld BU/grind and have seen one were the person placed lots of plastic steel on the pin and then slid a bushing over it. These repairs were a pain to work with when I got to them.

I made a heavy bushing and drove on the pin, very tight fit. And bored out the axel to where it pivots nicely. Maybe not the best way but works. I would think with some grease once in a while it will hold up. We'll see.

Would a copper bushing hold up? Or should this bushing be steel?

I wouldn't use a copper/brass bushing. Perhaps if you were only going to drive it in parades it would be good enough. But who knows what tomorrow will bring?
