I have removed the gas tank and looked closely at everything in the area of the throttle linkage on 2 D14s and each series of D15.  I have not seen that spring on any of them!  It does not look like it serves any purpose.  I can double check my D15 II tomorrow, but I am 99% certain it does not have one.  All of these tractors run perfectly.

If its the one I am thinking of, gots a long tail and hook, fine wire, hooks from the throttle linkage, on the back side of carb, to one of the exhaust manifold studs...

They definitely were on the D15 II's. I put a new one on this tractor several years ago. It is a small wire spring, fairly large diameter, it has a long end and short end. I can't remember where it hooked to. They will rust some and usually break at the long hook side.My manuals are at the shop. Thanks Tracy

,

No, it's not the anti surge spring we are talking about.  There is a supposedly a small spring that is hooked to the throttle linkage under the fuel tank close to the instrument panel.

Dad pulled the panel under tank to clean mouse nest out of there and we have the same broken spring in there.

their  should be a hole in the throttle from  gov. to carb-- fromm there it goes up to manifold stud abve it---if does surge - probably does not need it there are more out there without -than with them

I am in agreement with DSeries4, the question is about the compensating spring underneath the gas tank on the governor control. I pulled out my parts manual and see the spring, but no indication of what it is hooked to.

When I was restoring that area of my tractor, I had no spring either. There is a hole in the lower lever assembly (227730) for a spring but like Tracy asked, what is it hooked to. The spring must either help you pull the throttle up or help it throttle down.

The other spring being mentioned is the return spring (211320) that is attached to the choke control rod and hooked on a manifold stud. I remember when dad bought his Series 1 D15, I could start it on cold days with about half choke and with some engine vibration, the return spring would gradually pull the choke off.
