Hi Forum helped us getting our D-14 starting and running well. Thanks to all. New problem. How do I get the hydraulic arms to work. Found breather on right side mid way up chassis with dip stick under it. Pulled it and clean fluid up to level mark. Assume two levers on steering column left side control arms? Top arm sensitivity and bottom arm controls up and down motion. Is this correct? With tractor in neutral nothing happens. What is the best manual I should buy to learn and repair this tractor. Also cap on top of transmission on left side with small hole in center. Take it off and look down in there. Should there be a dip stick breather for the transmission? Put screw driver down hole approx. 6 inches and no fluid. Thanks, Don.

You are correct on the levers. Was your foot on the clutch, when you checked function? Also there are 2 dipsticks, left of the gearshift lever. Front most one is PD clutch, rear is for rear end. both are rather long, with the full mark low, on each stick. Hyd stick and PD stick get hytran and rear gets 89W90, IIRR...

you can make life easy...
use SAE30 for the engine oil and 'universal TGH' or whatever is the name for oil good for trannies/hydraulics/etc. WallyWorld sells it in 5 gallon buckets. It's worked fine for my D-14 since 2001 ! oil level for the lift needs to be checked with arms up( tractor not yours...). There's a nasty 'little' problem with some D-14s. The ram cylinder and /or hose leaks, so that oil fills up the 'rearend'. This can be confirmed when you drain the rear end. I KNOW it ain't supposed to have 7 GALLONS of oil in it, so be sure to have 2 empty bucket when you pull the plug. Also just let the plug drp into the bucket, less mess, in the long run.... Pump runs whenever engine does UNLESS you push in the clutch so if you still have no lift after adding oil, pump may have to be rebuilt( check ball could be stuck). Jay |

Thanks for the info. Will check this out. Lift did work a year ago as owner said but for some reason it is not functional now.

Do yourself a big favor and pick up an ops manual.
I have a number of D15's and prefer to check all fluids before starting so have done the following on all units. With a known full level on the hydraulics dipstick, mark the level on the back side of the cap dipstick with a marker or pencil. Using an auto punch, mark the level with 3-4 "dots" as this allows checking the hyd fluid before starting, when you check all other levels.

I recommend this one. Original Allis Operators Instructions and Parts Illustration. It's the one a farmer would receive with his new D-14. Gary http://www.ebay.ca/itm/ALLIS-CHALMERS-D14-OPERATING-OPERATORS-INSTRUCTIONS-OWNERS-MANUAL-PARTS-ILL-/390573368861?hash=item5aeffca61d:g:t~4AAOxyJs5RdZLI |
