Ok - new to forum. Bought my neighbors property, and with it i inherited a running Allis Chalmers D14. I have not examined it, but just saw it from about 10 feet away. The owner told me it starts great, runs, moves, but that the power steering pump leaks heavily. I googled D14 parts, and see that many are available, but only see 1 - seal for the power stock power steering pump. Given i have not looked at it yet, just wondering from other owners if the main seal (that is readliy available from parts dealers), is a normal culprit of these power steering pumps. Obviously , only way to know is to investigate and probably remove the steering pump. Looking for any insight anyone has . Thanks so much for any feedback! Toolman.

90% of the time, the leaks start where the steering shaft goes into the front end. I believe the 'book' says you should roll the front end away from the engine to replace that seal.
The pump seal might be a little easier to fix. |

Look it over close before tearing it apart. The D14 pump is engine driven from the gears in the front cover. I believe the pump will put steering oil in the engine if that pump shaft seal leaks, the engine should be gaining oil on the dipstick.

I've seen or heard the pump going bad, or breaking in most cases. The D15 pump will fit, but you have to notch the side rail for it to fit. I doubt you will find a 14 pump. Be gentle removing the lines if necessary. They are formed steel pipe and are a pain to get reinstalled.

I removed and repaired the ps pump on my D14 a number of years ago. Took a LONG time and an equal amount of patience to detach the steel lines that John (MI) mentions....mostly as there's almost no room to swing a wrench. But it can be done. Finding parts......not so easy. I needed the two internal gears. New parts weren't available, but I was able to locate a pair from a similar pump that could be machined to fit.
Good luck!
