D14 Gears jumping out

On my D14, I had the problem of the 3rd gear jumping. I modified this by shifting the lockout by 0.1". This solved the problem. But now downhill I have a noise that sounds like a friction noise or a slight snagging of a gear pinion.
How to fix this problem and what is the origin?
This jumping out problem is common to the D10, D12, D14, ED40, and other models such as the 180 series

Only in third gear going downhill ?? or makes the noise in any other gear too ??

So, you have to make a management decision. Leave it the way it is (staying in gear going downhill with a noise) or change it back to jumping out of gear and no noise. Kind of a no-brainer for me. Make sure it's full of trans oil to keep that shift fork well lubed.

I always use a 70229458 spring from a D-17 hand clutch and shove it inside the existing detent spring. I also make a second detent utilizing the neutral spring/ball so two properly timed detents lock it into gear.

When you moved the detent on 3rd gear shift rail, you prolly moved it enough so 3rd gear meshes with or is bumping the reverse idler gear.

Which on D-15's is a very common noise when running third gear. Kind of a growling noise and only when in third. D-14's that reverse gear is a little narrower so it might be just kissing it now.

Can I think that this noise should not worry me and does not present any risk for the gearbox and the various gears?

I moved mine .090" about 15 years ago with no noise or other problems. I have done others with no problems. Sounds like it's going a little too far.
